We are very psyched to announce that Tony Lechner’s song, “Mocha Maya” won the John Lennon songwriting contest for best jazz song of 2010. Tony is the leader of Wild-Wood, the band that has played Mocha Maya’s so many times in the past. And his Gypsy Jazz instrumental original, that you can view just below, first won the “Session 2” jazz category and just recently the “Session 1” winner went head to head with “Mocha Maya” and Tony was victorious! Thank you to all of you that went and voted for it.
Mocha Maya's, Buckland Library Honored for Accessibility
Stavros has honored Mocha Maya's in Shelburne Falls and the Buckland Public Library for increasing and providing access to individuals with disabilities. The awards were presented at the annual Access Award Luncheon at the Log Cabin in Holyoke on October 20, 2011.
Access awards are given annually to businesses, organizations, and people that have made an extra effort to open their services and Valley communities to persons with disabilities and elders. "Mocha Maya's (47 Bridge Street) makes a great effort to welcome everybody," said Janet Shaw, Director of Independent Living Services at Stavros. "They've put a lot of accessible features into a small, comfortable space," said Shaw. "And we really admire how the staff there makes everyone feel at home," she said, noting the rave reviews of parents of children with disabilities. "Mocha Maya's is a treasure for the whole community."
The Buckland Public Library has made big changes that have led to greater access. "Thanks to the vision of Ann Wilson, a former trustee, the Buckland library is both a lot bigger and a lot more welcoming," said Shaw. "Automatic door openers, access throughout the building, and staff members who are always ready to be helpful: Buckland has a lot to be proud of."
Stavros, a member agency of the United Way of Franklin County, serves more than 6,000 people each year throughout the Pioneer Valley.
Just to the right here you’ll see the winning coffee label design done by Buckland Shelburne Elementary student Brian Allen. We can’t say enough about how thankful we are and how impressed we were with all of the entries by the BSE students! Thank you all!
So what is this about? Well we have a special roast with a label designed by BSE student Brian Allen and you can help the students raise money for their school by buying a 12oz. bag! For every 12oz. bag of the BSE Roast purchased Mocha Maya’s will donate $2 back to the Buckland Shelburne Elementary! So whether you track down one of these students (before they track you down) to get a bag or whether you stop into Mocha Maya’s to get some the money will still go back to the school! And soon you’ll be able to order it online as well! So get a bag today and help support Buckland Shelburne Elementary!
